The Saturday Estero's Season Actually Starts

Estero's season starts on Saturday, October 17. Three events fall on that date. Friends of Koreshan runs a guided historic walk at 10 a.m. Estero Park holds its free Spooktacular from 5 to 9 p.m. Hertz Arena opens the Florida Everblades' regular season at 7 p.m. by raising a banner for a record fifth Kelly Cup.

The morning fits on its own. The evening does not. The Spooktacular movie starts at 7:15 p.m., and the puck drops at 7:00. The morning sets up the day, and the evening is the decision you plan around.

Morning at the Settlement

The Friends of Koreshan guided historic walking tour leaves at 10 a.m. and runs about 90 minutes. It covers the 19th-century Koreshan Unity settlement, its buildings and gardens, and the pioneers who built it. Florida State Parks says the tours also cover daily life in the settlement, the Koreshans' ideas and beliefs, and the work they did there.

The tour costs $10 and isn't refundable. Children under 13 go free, and park admission is separate. The state park lists that admission at $5 per vehicle. The historic settlement is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 3800 Corkscrew Road. The tour runs every Saturday in October: the 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st. If the 17th is your evening for the arena or the park, any of the other three Saturdays keeps the morning free.

One thing hasn't come back at Koreshan. The park's campground has been temporarily closed since October 31, 2025, and the state park page gives no reopening date.

The 7:00 and 7:15 Problem

This is the October 17 timeline, with every time taken from the organizers' own postings:

  1. 10:00 a.m. Koreshan guided walk starts, about 90 minutes long.
  2. 5:00 p.m. The Hertz Arena parking lot opens, two hours before the event. Estero Park's Spooktacular starts. The Publix-presented Everblades tailgate starts.
  3. 6:00 p.m. Hertz Arena doors open, one hour before puck drop.
  4. 7:00 p.m. Puck drop against the Orlando Solar Bears. The tailgate ends.
  5. 7:15 p.m. The movie in the park, "Elio," rated PG, starts on the lawn at Estero Park.
  6. 9:00 p.m. The Spooktacular ends.

The Village of Estero's notice lists trunk-or-treating, food trucks and a free outdoor movie at 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd. It asks people to bring chairs or blankets. Neighbors who want to donate candy or glow sticks can call the Estero Recreation Center at 239-533-1470.

A family could catch the first hour of trunk-or-treating and still reach Hertz Arena by doors, but that skips the movie and most of the tailgate. Seeing everything in one evening isn't possible, so the plan comes down to which event gets the 7 o'clock slot.

What Goes Up to the Rafters

Opening nights come every year. A banner night like this one doesn't.

The Everblades won the 2026 Kelly Cup in Game 6 at Kansas City in mid-June. They became the first team in ECHL history to win five Kelly Cups, and it was their fourth title in five years. They lost the first two games of the series on the road, then beat the Kansas City Mavericks four straight times.

The clincher was the second-longest game in Kelly Cup Finals history. Florida trailed 4–1 more than 11 minutes into the third period, then scored three goals in the last 8:41 of regulation to force overtime. Isaac Nurse ended it at 15:24 of the second overtime, after almost five hours of hockey. Goaltender Cam Johnson became the first three-time winner of the playoff MVP award, going 16-3-1 with a 1.93 goals-against average that postseason. Brad Ralph earned his fourth Kelly Cup as coach.

The title also ended a one-year gap. Trois-Rivières won the 2025 Kelly Cup, and Florida's previous cup came in 2024, also against Kansas City. The team's promotional schedule bills the night as a Banner Raising presented by NCH, with LED bracelets for the first 7,000 fans.

If the Arena Gets Your Evening

Oct. 17 is opening night of the regular season. It isn't the first hockey at Hertz Arena this fall. The Everblades play two home preseason games against Orlando on October 8 and 9, which work as a lower-key first look.

For the opener itself:

  • Tickets start at $28, sold through Ticketmaster.
  • Parking costs $15 to $30 plus taxes and fees, and the lot is cashless.
  • The tailgate runs 5 to 7 p.m. The event listing doesn't say where. The arena's parking rules ban tailgating in the lot, so check the team's listing for the spot before you pack a cooler.
  • If you miss the 17th, you can still get a keepsake. On Saturday, October 24, against Atlanta, the first 1,500 fans get a commemorative championship banner.
  • On a budget, Wednesday home games bring back $4 beers and $4 hot dogs.

The team says promotional dates are subject to change. It announced eight date changes on September 1, but only two involved home games, and the October 17 opener wasn't one of them.

What the Saturday Sets in Motion

October 17 starts a stretch that runs into December. The calendar fills from there:

  • October 21, 8 p.m. The Doobie Brothers play Hertz Arena.
  • October 31, 8 p.m. Gavin Adcock plays Hertz Arena. The same day is the last Saturday Koreshan walk of the month.
  • November 13, 10 a.m. "History of Koreshan Music" in the park's Art Hall, run by Friends of Koreshan.
  • December 4 The Everblades' Teddy Bear Toss against Cincinnati. Stuffed animals thrown after the first goal go to children across Southwest Florida.
  • December 5 Coconut Point's Tropical Holiday Celebration, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 23106 Fashion Drive, with a parade and tree lighting. That night the Everblades host Skate with the Players.
  • December 5–6 The free Coconut Point Holiday Craft Festival at 23181 Via Villagio Drive.

The water calendar opens in October too. Estero River Outfitters runs guided moonlight paddles once a month from October through April. The four-mile route passes through Koreshan State Park and the Estero Bay Buffer Preserve, leaving near sunset and finishing as the moon rises. Its page lists no fall dates, so ask the outfitter directly.

The places you'll stop at on the way to all this have shifted a little since summer. Whataburger is aiming for a late-October opening at 22927 Lyden Drive, the former Pollo Tropical near Coconut Point. Whataburger's Juan Valenzuela told The News-Press the Estero location won't be open 24 hours, and the opening date is still a target. At Coconut Point, Kendra Scott is now open on Fashion Drive between Lovesac and Everything But Water. Aurelio's Pizza on Highland Oaks Drive closed on August 10. The RAD Tasting Room at Miromar Outlets, 10801 Corkscrew Road, was still open as of the News-Press's September 4 report.

Miromar has its own warm-up the weekend before. The Shop Dine and Dash 5K starts at 9:30 a.m. on October 10, and the next day the Lee County Sheriff's Office runs "Miromar Meowing," a cat-adoption event with Haven on Earth Animal League at its outlet community outreach center.

At Jill Nicholas, we keep the same kind of calendar for Estero's market, from the first busy weekend of season to the holiday rush that follows. If seasonal timing is part of your plans this year, Request a Consultation and we'll walk through the dates that matter for you.
